A representative of the UK's Foreign Office refuted statements made on Thursday by Turkish Cypriot "Prime Minister" Ersin Tatar, who claimed that the UK would be examining the prospect of launching direct flights  to the Ercan airport in the north of the island.

American socialite Paris Hilton arrived in Turkish Cyprus on Aug. 4 for an appearance to promote her new perfume.

The TV personality, businesswoman, and model was welcomed by Tourism Minister Fikri Ataoğlu at Ercan International Airport, Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
