EV makers modify engines for Turkish market for lower tax

Electric carmakers are adjusting the engine powers of their vehicles so that consumers pay lower taxes, which serves as a kind of incentive to buy EVs.

In the past, carmakers resorted to a similar method to boost sales. They designed 1.5-liter or 1.6-liter engines, especially for the Turkish market which would fit into lower tax brackets and made those vehicles more accessible.

Foreign investments in Bulgaria have soared in the first ten months of 2023, reaching nearly EUR 3.4 billion—an impressive increase of over EUR 1.1 billion from the same period in 2022, marking a remarkable 53.6% year-on-year growth. Preliminary data from the Bulgarian National Bank highlights this as the country's highest foreign investment surge in almost 15 years.

Nearly 117,000 vehicles registered in Turkey in July

A total of 116,988 vehicles were registered in Turkey in July, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced on Aug. 27.

The figure fell 15.8% from the same month last year but posted a month-on-month rise of 12.1%, TÜİK said.

The total number of road motor vehicles registered to traffic topped 24.8 million by the end of July, TÜİK said.

Road motor vehicle registrations jump in March

The number of vehicles registered in Turkey surged 81% in March compared to the same month last year, according to the country's statistics authority on April 20. 

A total of 130,420 new and old vehicles were registered last month, according to TÜİK. 

The overall number of registered vehicles traveling on Turkish roads neared 24.5 million as of this March.
