Several people in Romania and abroad joined the initiative of two young men of Brasov and contributed to aids to villagers of Doboi, Harghita County - ethnic Romanians, Orthodox, living within a local majority of ethnic Hungarians of Catholic and Protestant faith, and talking to each other in Hungarian even in their homes.

'Szekely Land' autonomy arbitration request denied in Strasbourg

A request for arbitration in relation to the autonomy of the 'Szekely Land' in Romania demanded by several local councils from the counties of Covasna, Harghita and Mures was denied on Tuesday in Strasbourg by the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (CLRA) of the Council of Europe.

Big Drop in Student Numbers Worries Romania

Romania needs to increase the number of people in higher education by at least 10 per cent by 2020 and stop the sharp fall in the number of people going to university, an Education Ministry paper says.

According to official data, only 465,000 students enrolled in late 2013, compared to 891,000 only four years earlier.
