Ethnic groups in Turkey

The contribution of Albanians and ethnic Greeks from Albania to the Greek economy is indisputable. The big migration wave of the 1990s revitalized almost all professions and remains a decisive factor in the country's economic development. Greece gained capable blue-collar workers and laborers who, with their dedication and hard work, continue to contribute to the country and create wealth.

A total of 25,404 irregular migrants were pushed back to Turkey by Greece in the first ten months of 2019, up from 11,867 migrants in 2018, Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Oct. 27.

More than 3.6 million Syrians under temporary protection constitute the majority of foreigners living in Turkey, an official said on Sept. 24.

The ethnic Albanian vice-president of the Montenegrin parliament, Genci Nimanbegu, has claimed that Albanians, who make up about 5 per cent of the  country's population, remain discriminated against in the public sector, pointing as an example to the small multi-ethnic municipalities of Plav and Gusinje.

Turkey has extended the deadline for unregistered Syrian refugees in Istanbul to leave the city by two months.

A new draft law on citizenship adopted by the Albanian government, due to be approved by parliament, will allow Albanians living abroad to acquire Albanian citizenship more easily.

The only precondition would be to prove that their ancestors had Albanian citizenship.
