Merkel: Everything must be done to prevent Greece running out of cash

 

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday said everything must be done to prevent Greece running out of money before any bailout extension deal is achieved with its international and EZ partners. "Everything must be undertaken to prevent that."

Her comments came after a private meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, which she described as "constructive".

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel Thursday in Brussels in a bid to secure a statement of political support from Berlin amid tough negotiations with creditors and dwindling finances.

A meeting between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis concluded on Monday night. Government sources state that Tsipras was briefed on the progress of negotiations with Greece's international creditors from the International Monetary Fund, European Central Bank and European Commission ahead of Tuesday's meeting with the Brussels Group.
