No EU for Turkey: European Commission President Juncker

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker gave his annual State of the European Union address at the European Parliament on Wednesday morning presenting his vision for the future of the Union. Mr. Juncker ruled the prospect of an EU membership for Turkey in the foreseeable future in his speech. The main points of Juncekr’s speech were:

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Sept. 13 that Turkey is distancing itself from the European Union and will not become a member of the bloc in the "foreseeable future."

Juncker said Ankara has for some time been "moving away from the European Union in leaps and bounds."

It's back to Strasbourg this week for MEPs as they return to France for their first plenary sitting since the summer recess, reported BBC. 

Jean-Claude Juncker will take centre-stage with his third "state of the union" speech as European Commission President on Wednesday.

Juncker to push for new trade agreements in Union speech

The Commission president will ask for mandates to negotiate new free trade agreements, and will propose a framework to screen foreign investment, as part of a trade package to be announced during his state of the EU address on 13 September.

Trade will play a major role in Jean-Claude Juncker’s landmark speech in the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg.
