Bulgaria's PM Backs Juncker as Next EC President Candidate

Plamen Oresharski, the Prime Minister who heads Bulgaria's socialist-led government, said Friday he has thrown his support behind EPP nominee for Commission President.

After an unsuccessful no-confidence vote in Parliament, Oresharski told the media that he had backed the bid of conservative Jean-Claude Juncker as EU Commission President.

Prime Minister Oresharski Pays One-Day Visit to Brussels

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Plamenr Oresharski will pay a one-day visit to Brussels, Tuesday.

Oresharski will meet with the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and will take part in the unofficial dinner of the Heads of State and Government of the EU member states, the press service of the government announced.

Bulgarian Socialist Leader May Lose MEP Seat to 28-Year-old Candidate

In a surprising turn, Sergey Stanishev, leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), may lose the MEP seat to 28-year-old Momchil Nekov, who is 15th on the election list.

Nekov is believed to have received a huge portion of the preference vote in the European Parliament elections on Sunday due to a misunderstanding.

Bulgaria's GERB to Request EPP Deputy Chair Seat - Boyko Borisov

GERB, Bulgaria's opposition which scored a landslide victory in Sunday's European elections, is to demand the office of EPP Deputy Chair.

The move was announced by GERB's leader and former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov at the press conference his party held on Monday following partial results of the vote.
