Greece "sadly bids farewell to a great European and philhellene, the visionary who, with his work, marked the European Union's history and development," Foreign  Minister George Gerapetritis said in a statement about the passing of former European Commission president Jacques Delors on Wednesday.

A stronger common European policy, the creation of a European army and common European embassies are among the ideas proposed by European citizens participating in the last meeting of the first Citizens' Council of the Conference on the Future of Europe.

Turkey is demanding that Greece not ask for help from others and not involve the European Union in their disputes. This was recently repeated by the foreign and defense ministers of Greece's eastern neighbor.

With the summer season around the corner, Greece was generally satisfied on Wednesday with the roadmap outlined by the European Commission regarding the resumption of tourism in the European Union.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Thursday accused Greece of breaching its obligations deriving from international and European law, while calling for the support of the European Union for dealing with the conflict in Syria and the refugee issue.

Greece is faced with the serious risk of a large-scale fiscal derailment, according to the third enhanced surveillance report published by the European Commission on Wednesday. 

The government's recent policies, which appear dictated in the most part by looming elections, have troubled the European Commission, which sent a stern message in its second enhanced surveillance report on Wednesday, saying that Greece must boost its reform efforts. 

Pension cuts due to come into effect in January remain a sore point in talks between Greece and its international creditors, with both sides apparently unwilling to compromise amid speculation that the deadlock could trigger early elections.
