No bomb found on plane at Athens airport

A thorough inspection of a passenger plane that landed at Athens airport earlier Sunday has turned up no explosives, Greek media report.

The plane, a Boeing 737, was on a scheduled route from Katowince, Poland to Athens and reportedly carried more than 150 passenger. It is operated by Buzz Air, a Polish subsidiary of Ryanair's.

Istanbul Airport busiest in Europe last year

Istanbul's mega airport was the busiest in Europe last year, according to the latest data from Eurocontrol.

It was again a very close race for the top spot, with İGA Istanbul narrowly finishing the year on top with 1,156 daily movements. Amsterdam Schiphol takes the second spot with 1,140 daily flights, down 18 percent from 2019, Eurocontrol said in a report.

Lufthansa cancels another 2,000 summer flights

German national carrier Lufthansa said Wednesday it was scrapping another 2,000 flights this summer because of staff shortages, adding to a chaotic travel season as the industry attempts to bounce back from the pandemic.

The cancellations between now and the end of August will affect Lufthansa's hubs in Munich and Frankfurt, a company spokesman told AFP.

United Airlines loses $1.4 bln in first quarter

United Airlines reported on April 20 that it lost $1.38 billion in the first quarter of 2022 but said it expects to return to profitability in the current three-month period as post-pandemic travel ramps back up.

The Chicago-based airline posted revenue of $7.67 billion in the quarter that ended March 31. That was down 21 percent from the first quarter of 2019.

Wizz Air renews route linking Ljubljana and London Luton

Ljubljana – Low-budget airline Wizz Air has relaunched a direct air route between Ljubljana Airport and London Luton Airport after more than a year and a half of suspension due Covid-19. The carrier will operate three flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between the two destinations.

Tourism Minister expresses optimism for 2022 in FT interview

The Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, expresses reasonable optimism for the next tourist season in an interview with the Financial Times.

"Having met most airlines and tourism providers in the UK, we can only be very optimistic about 2022," he said. He pointed out that "in 2022 Greece expects 35% more visitors from the United Kingdom compared to 2021".
