European Parliament elections in Bulgaria

In the run-up to Bulgaria's National Assembly elections, a recent Gallup International survey conducted for BNT has unveiled intriguing insights into the political landscape of the country. The survey, carried out between March 28 and April 5, canvassed 805 adult Bulgarians, providing a snapshot of voter sentiments as the nation stands on the cusp of pivotal political decisions.

In anticipation of the upcoming elections for members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from Bulgaria, scheduled for June 9 this year, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has unveiled a crucial update to voting regulations.

The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) projects a notable shift to the right in the 2024 European Parliamentary (EP) elections, foretelling the rise of Euroskeptic parties, potentially securing significant positions in Bulgaria. The forecast suggests a surge in right-leaning movements across several countries.

Daniel Laurer will be one of the two candidates for Bulgaria's European Commissioner. The decision of Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov is for GERB-SDS to nominate a candidate as well.

So far, the coalition has not commented on who they will nominate. It is possible that they nominate Eva Maidel.

A total of 162 ballot boxes will be set up in Türkiye for Bulgarian citizens residing in the country as Bulgaria heads to the polls for parliamentary elections for the fifth time in the last two years.

The Bulgarian political party "We Continue the Change" remains the first political force with 100% processed protocols from the parliamentary elections on November 14. This is indicated by a reference on the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC).It won with 673,141 votes or 25.67%.

If the National Assembly elections were held in the first half of September, the results would be as follows:

Bulgarians voted on Sunday (4 April) sending in Parliament three new political forces largely representing the anti-corruption protests during the summer. Boyko Borissov's GERB party remained the largest force, but appears unable to form a government.

Parallel vote count at 100% by Alpha Research polling agency shows that Boyko Borrisov's GERB-Union of Democratic Forces coalition has won 25.2% share of the votes in Bulgaria's parliamentary elections, held on April 4.

The party of the TV presenter, Slavi Trifonov "There is Such a People" is second with 17.1%.

The European Parliament's Democracy Monitoring Group is today discussing the organisation of a mission to look into corruption and the rule of law in Bulgaria. This was announced by Bulgarian MEP Elena Yoncheva, who is the only Bulgarian representative in the group chaired by the Dutch MEP from "Renew Europe" Sophie in't Veld, reported BNT. The group includes 14 MEPs.
