Today is the International Roma Day
April 8 was declared an International Day of the Roma in 1992. The idea that the UN and the European Union have supported was the International Organization "Romano Union". The different countries recall the traditions of the Roma - their rich culture and history.

EP: Roma Rights Are Constantly Violated in the EU
Roma should be better represented in the media, state institutions and political organizations, say MEPs, NOVA TV reported.
The fundamental rights of the Roma remain constantly violated in the EU. This is stated by the European Parliament in a resolution adopted on Tuesday.

Discrimination against ethnic minorities and Roma remained widespread, states the latest report on Croatia prepared by Amnesty International.
Additionally, Serb returnees face "persisting obstacles to regain their property," the document said, citing UNHCR.

Turkey's first Roma deputy, Özcan Purcu, has drawn attention to discrimination against Roma citizens, citing problems in education, healthcare and equal access to the job market. Stefanovic: Help to young Roma for employment in police
BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Interior Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic announced support to young Roma citizens wishing to apply for employment in the police.
Late on Wednesday, Stefanovic conferred with representatives of the Police Officers Association 'European Police Officers of Roma Nationality' concerning integration of members of the Roma minority into the Serbian MUP.

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Wednesday called for the promotion of Roma rights in Serbia, stressing that the government should do everything it can to empower members of this national minority to enjoy their rights.
