40% of Bulgarians can not Keep Their Homes Warm

39.2% of Bulgarians could not keep their homes warm, according to a Eurostat survey for 2016. By this indicator, the country is in the worst position in the EU because the largest share of its population fails to secure its heating in the cold months of the year. For comparison, on average, 8.7% of citizens in the EU can not afford normal heating.

Bulgarians Spend the Most in Europe for Internet and Phones

Bulgarians spend the most on Internet and phones in Europe and least - on insurance. This shows Eurostat data, NOVA reported.

According to Eurostat, Bulgarians are giving more money than the average European for food, alcohol and cigarettes and for fuel. First of all, however, are Luxembourg and Estonia, where is the most expensive drinking and smoking.

Eurostat: Almost 50% of Children in Bulgaria Were at Risk of Poverty in 2016

In 2016, almost half of the children in Bulgaria were at risk of poverty or social exclusion, European Union statistics agency Eurostat said in a report published to mark Universal Children's Day on 20th of November.

Bulgaria is followed by Romania, Greece and Hungary.

Bulgaria's Debt For 2016 is 29% of GDP

According to the final data of the National Statistical Institute the General Government Institutional Sector reported in 2016 a deficit of 36 million BGN or 0.04% of GDP. The deficit in Central Government amounted to 130 million BGN or 0.14% of GDP. The Local Government subsector reported a surplus of 73 million BGN and the sub-sector Social Security Funds 21 million BGN.
