One in three Greeks live in poverty or social exclusion, Eurostat shows

One in three Greeks live in conditions of poverty social exclusion, compared to an average of one in four citizens in European Union countries, according to data for 2016 that the EU's statistics service Eurostat made public on Monday.

Specifically, 35.5 percent of the Greek population (3.8 million people) were living in social exclusion last year compared to 28.1 percent in 2008.

Greece's economic sentiment improves

Greece's economic sentiment index edged higher this month, according to a Eurostat survey published Wednesday, although it remained in pessimistic territory.

The country's ESI reading for August was 99 points, its highest in 12 months, up from 98.2 points in July. The line between pessimism and optimism is 100 points.

Minimum Wage in Bulgaria - Still the Lowest in EU

Latest Eurostat data says that the minimum wage in the EU's richest member-state - Luxembourg is 9 times higher than the one in the poorest member - Bulgaria.

It is EUR 1,999 in Luxembourg and EUR 235 in Bulgaria, reported Econ.bg.

Ireland, Holland, Belgium and Germany are also on the Top 5 list with minimum wages ranging from EUR 1,563 to EUR 1, 498.

In Romania are recorded the lowest rates of people cannot afford having holidays. Eurostat pointed out that more than 6 in 10 people could not afford a one-week annual holiday away from home in Romania (66.6%) and Croatia (62.8%). Over half the population in Bulgaria (56.4%), Greece (53.6%), Cyprus (53.5% in 2015) and Hungary (50.7%) face difficulties in spending money for some days off.

Housing Prices in Bulgaria are Rising with one of the Fastest Rates in the EU

Household prices in Bulgaria registered one of the biggest increases in the first quarter in the European Union on an annual basis - 8.8%. This shows latest Eurostat data released on Wednesday. Reports Investor. 

Thus our country ranks fifth in the ranking, with the Czech Republic having a 12.7% increase. Lithuania followed by Lithuania (10.2%), Latvia (10.1%) and Ireland (8.9%).
