Tax fairness and elegance
Greek second round elections are due, and tax policy and tax fairness have become (purposefully) a campaign issue. Sadly, divide-and-conquer is polarizing the people and setting up parties against each other as though the other side is not worth a vote. It is not just in Greece where this strategy is popular.

Eurostat: Nearly 1/3 of Bulgarians are at Risk of Poverty
In 2022, 95.3 million people in the European Union were at risk of poverty or social exclusion, i.e. they lived in households with serious financial difficulties. This is according to data from the Eurostat statistical office. They remain almost unchanged from the previous year, when 95.4 million people lived at risk of poverty.
The Eurozone was in Recession in the First Quarter of 2023
The Eurozone economy was in a technical recession in the first three months of 2023, according to data published earlier today by the European statistical office Eurostat, BTA reported.
Asylum Applicants in 2022 Increase by 64% in EU, by 86% in Bulgaria
In 2022, 881,200 people who were not citizens of the European Union applied for asylum for the first time in member states, which is 64% more than in 2021, shows the latest Eurostat data published on Thursday on the website of the statistical agency.

Despite the increase in prices of eggs in January from 72.4%, on the annual basis, wholesale prices of Bulgarian eggs are among the lowest in the EU. This is what Ivaylo Galabov, chairman of the Union of Poultry Breeders in Bulgaria said for BTA.
Bulgaria has the Highest Death Rate in the EU
With 1,787 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, Bulgaria has the highest mortality rate in the EU in 2020, reported the European Union's statistical agency Eurostat.
Bulgaria is followed by Romania (1,622), Hungary (1,513), Lithuania (1,482) and Latvia (1,445).
