Bulgarian Food Safety Agency: Over 30 Tonnes of Food Confiscated in August
Sofia. In August, a total of 34,953 kg of food of animal and non-animal origin were earmarked for destruction by food control inspectors of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, the latter said. The amount of food was confiscated from production sites, warehouses, stores and food service establishments.

About 1.2 million Foreign Tourists Visited Bulgaria During the Winter Season
We expect the sum of the winter tourist season in Bulgaria to be 1.2 million foreign tourists entering Bulgaria. There was a drop in ski tourism in early January due to the warm weather. Ski tourists will be about 190 thousand, with more than half of them in Bansko.

Fireplaces polluting homes, experts warn
Researchers at Thessaloniki's Aristotle University have warned that excessive use of fireplaces instead of other forms of heating creates dangerous pollution inside homes, saying that microparticles in closed spaces can exceed maximum safety levels set by European authorities within just two or three hours of lighting a fire.

11 People Died in a Fire in Japan
At least 11 people were killed in a fire in a shelter in the Japanese city of Sapporo. Victims are homeless. The building was owned by an organization assisting poor and elderly people. Five other residents of the social center were rescued by firefighters, three of whom were injured. The police still have no version of the incident.
