Police briefly detained a 21-year-old Greek man following clashes between self-styled anarchists and police on Sunday evening in the downtown Athens neighborhood of Exarcha.

The clashes resulted in damage to parked cars in the area.

No injuries were reported however. 

A total of 11 people were arrested and 26 detained during the rioting that broke out on Wednesday at a demonstration to mark the nine-year anniversary since the murder of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos by a policeman in central Athens.

Small groups of youths have clashed with Greek police before a demonstration to mark the ninth anniversary of the fatal police shooting of a teenager in Athens that sparked the worst rioting Greece had seen in decades.

Notaries in Athens and Piraeus decided on Tuesday to call off auctions of repossessed properties scheduled for Wednesday because of major police operations in the capital. 

There will be changes to and suspension of some bus and trolley bus routes in central Athens over the next three days due to the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and demonstrations to mark the ninth anniversary of teenager Alexandros Grigoropoulos being shot dead by a police officer.

The trial of 10 people who were arrested during last Friday's street riots in the wider Exarchia area in central Athens was postponed until December 1 on Monday due to the absence of police officer witnesses.

Self-styled anarchists and members of anti-establishment groups appeared intent on Wednesday on creating mayhem with attacks against riot police during the commemorative events to mark the 44th anniversary since the student uprising at the Athens Polytechnic - now known as the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).
