Iceberg the size of Mali ready to be detached from the Antarctica
A 5000 sq km iceberg, approximately the size of the island of Mali in Indonesia, is ready to be detached from West Antarctica.
According to scientists from the Swansea University in the UK, the iceberg is among the 10 biggest ever recorded and its surface is 85 times bigger than Manhattan!
The island of Calypso (vid)
The islet of Gavdos located opposite Sfakia, Crete, is the southern-most border of Greece and Europe.
According to Callimachus, this is the ancient isle of Ogygia where, as Homer claims in “Odyssey”, the nymph Calypso lived. You can actually see on your own the nymph’s “palace” near a cave, if you ask it from a local.

150,000 Antarctica penguins die after iceberg grounding
Some 150,000 penguins died after a massive iceberg grounded near their colony in Antarctica, forcing them to make a lengthy trek to find food, scientists say in a newly-published study.
'Bulgarian National' Dies on Mount Elbrus
A mountaineer who died while climbing up Elbrus, in the Northern Caucasus, is a Bulgarian national, Russia's RIA Novosti agency reports.
His body was found earlier on Thursday by a group of climbers, at a height of 4900 m (the peak itself is at an altitude of 5642 m).
As many as 12 rescuers arrived at the scene, taking the body down to hand it over to forensics.

Russia officially claims land rights over Arctic
Russia has submitted an official request to the United Nations to extend its continental shelf by 1.2 million square kilometers towards the Arctic. The Russians support their claims based on scientific studies carried out over the past years.

Denmark claims North Pole via Greenland ridge link
Scientific data shows Greenland's continental shelf is connected to a ridge beneath the Arctic Ocean, giving Danes a claim to the North Pole and any potential energy resources beneath it, Denmark's foreign minister said.
