An ex-employee at Facebook’s Germany headquarters revealed the tactics the company used to silence critics of the liberal German government.

The Greek Education Ministry has added a new category in its official site titled “Fake News”. This includes news, information, publications, statements related to education matters published in electronic and print media that the Ministry deems to be either contains inaccurate news or is invalid.

Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Maria Gabriel, launched a public consultation and announced the creation of a high-level expert group on fake news.

This took place at a special conference in Brussels with the participation of stakeholders.

A study of social network manipulation found that of 65 surveyed countries, the governments of 30 of them found themselves active in targeting information in a false direction. The Freedom of the Web 2017 survey was conducted by Friedham House, reports bgnes. 

The European Union has launched public consultations on "fake news" and online disinformation, and will also set up a group of experts in an effort to map out an EU strategy for tackling these threats by the spring of 2018.

The European Union is seeking feedback on the impact of fake news as part of a move to help the bloc's 500 million citizens assess news sources and make sure that social platforms such as Facebook live up to their responsibilities.

The term "fake news" is quite logically declared the phrase of the year by the British dictionary of English language Collins. Experts have reported that the use of the phrase has increased by as much as 365% in 2016, writes the Guardian. This is largely due to US President Donald Trump and the frequent use of the phrase by him.

GERB's new Facebook page, named 'Fake News - Register of Fake News, Lies, Propaganda and Dеception', has been active since Sunday and currently features around 10 posts, labelling statements by MPs from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP - the largest opposition party in parliament - as false.
