AHI calls for an end to Turkish occupation of Cyprus on invasion anniversary
The American Hellenic Institute released a statement on Thursday to mark the 49th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and called for an end to the occupation.
AHI condemned proposals of a "two-state solution" for the island as well as Turkey's reopening of the beach at Varosha.

Alleged hotel sale sparks investigation in Varosha

Turkish Cypriot citizens have been granted the right to benefit from the health system in Türkiye, Vice President Fuat Oktay has announced.
Some 530,000 people visit Varosha in two years
Some 530,000 people have visited the beaches of North Cyprus' Varosha in two years since it was opened after some 46 years, the daily Milliyet has reported.
"Varosha was opened to civilians in 2020. Vehicles are still not allowed to enter. One can wander inside the area on foot or bicycles," the daily highlighted.

Turkey criticizes UN for not taking consent of Turkish Cyprus on mission extention
Despite all calls and warnings, the consent of the Turkish Cypriot authorities was not sought once again, contrary to the United Nations rules and principles, while the U.N. Security Council extended the mandate of the U.N. Peacekeeping Force in the Island of Cyprus (UNFICYP) for six months with its resolution 2618 (2022) adopted on Jan. 27, the Foreign Ministry said.

The Republic of Cyprus is turning to the permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) - China, France, Russia, the UK, and the US - to brief them on Turkey's moves on the ground to re-open of the fenced-off seaside resort of Varosha (part of the city of Ammochostos) in the Turkish-occupied area of the island, in violation of UNSC resolutions.
