Justice Ministry ‘works for comprehensive changes in family law’
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç has announced that his ministry's ongoing comprehensive efforts on family law regulations will soon result in profound changes.
His ministry initiated efforts to address several issues causing citizens' grievances in family law, particularly divorce, alimony, and compensation-related cases, Tunç stated in a televised interview on Aug. 31.

With the precedent decision made by the Supreme Court, spouses will no longer have to fulfill loyalty obligations toward each other during divorce proceedings.
Ali Kızılay, a lawyer, stated that in cases filed based on special and general reasons for divorce, especially in terms of the annexes of the divorce, the legal remedy of appeal was taken.
COVID-19 fines to be refunded
The top court has annulled the article regarding the non-refundability of the administrative fines paid for violating the mask mandate during the pandemic — paving the way for reimbursement of the already paid penalties.
The court's annulment decision dated April 5 was published in May 24's Official Gazette and entered into force.

Some 1,836 quake survivor children reunited with families
More than 1,800 of the 1,914 unaccompanied minors taken under protection after the deadly Feb. 6 earthquakes have been handed over to their families, the Family and Social Services Ministry has announced.
Married women to be able to use maiden name
The Constitutional Court has annulled a decree in the Civil Code that a woman should take her husband's surname after marriage on the grounds that it is contrary to the principle of equality.
With this decision, which will enter into force after nine months, women will not need to file a lawsuit in order to use only their celibate surnames after marriage.

‘Donating’ a Child in 20th Century Albania

Brothers Rifat and Asim, both traders, lived in the Albanian coastal city of Durres in the first half of the last century, Asim born in 1900, and Rifat in 1910.
The older brother married a woman called Hatixhe and they were blessed with 15 children, of which 10 survived into adulthood. The last was born in 1946.

Labor Ministry issues circular on new parental and caregiver leaves
The Greek Labor Ministry has issued a circular regarding new parental and caregiver leaves, which came into effect recently. Fathers' paternity leave has increased from two to 14 days, which can be taken continuously or intermittently until the baby turns one month old. Two of the days can be granted even before the expected due date.
