The Topkapi Palace is on the verge of collapse due to ongoing archaeological excavations and studies that are bringing Roman and Byzantine finds to light, according to Turkish media. The Turkish media report that slits started appearing in the walls of the Ottoman Palace, which was the Royal residence for the sultans in Constantinople for 400 years.

Istanbul's Topkapı Palace at risk of collapse, needs urgent repair

Istanbul's Topkapı Palace is facing risk of collapse, as it has been determined that the ground on which it is situated is sliding toward the Sarayburnu district on the coast of the Marmara Sea. The authorities have also determined that there has been dangerous "ground liquidation" under the palace.

Two terrorist attacks in Turkey

Two attacks took place in Turkey on the same day, both in Constantinople. One was against the police Headquarters while the second one was against the local offices of President Erdogan’s political party Justice and Development Party’s(AKP) on Friday.

In both attacks the assailants used LAW anti-tank rockets. It is said that two people were involved in the attack.

2 injured after gunmen attack restaurant in Constantinople

 

At least two people were injured in a gun attack on a restaurant in Istanbul’s Fatih district yesterday afternoon. The Turkish police has not arrested any suspects yet.

 

The incident happened at around 5:30p.m. local time, who reported that two people approached the restaurant in a car and started shooting after getting out of the vehicle.

 

CHP to apply to UNESCO over contentious urban restoration law

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul deputy and parliamentary group deputy chair Gürsel Tekin has said he will carry a controversial Istanbul Municipality decision to sideline the approval process conducted by the Cultural Heritage Preservation Board regarding historical buildings in Istanbul's old city to UNESCO.

While the "elected" municipality's development and construction powers have been broadened, the powers of the "appointed" Cultural and Natural Heritage Conservation Board have been substantially trimmed.

Bypass on historic peninsula spark debate

A new decision by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council has sparked debate on the restoration, reinforcement and maintenance projects of around 50,000 buildings located on the city's historic peninsula, which are situated on around 10,000 registered architectures. The decision said it will no longer seek for the approval of the Cultural and Natural Heritage Conservation Board.
