Equipment used in Beşiktaş bombing 'not ordinary': Deputy PM

The explosives used in the deadly Dec. 10 Beşiktaş terror attack "are not ordinary ammunition," Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş said after a cabinet meeting on Dec. 12.

A thorough investigation to identify the source of the explosives is still being conducted, he added.    

Hürriyet reporter Ömer Erbil awarded journalism prize for Topkapı Palace story

Hürriyet reporter Ömer Erbil will be awarded the Turkish Journalists Association's (TGC) Sedat Simavi Award for his reporting on the danger of a collapse at Istanbul's historic Topkapı Palace in September.

The date and venue of the award ceremony will be announced later.

250-year-old Ottoman school restored without authorization

A 250-year-old Ottoman-era building in Istanbul's Fatih district has undergone an unauthorized restoration, prompting investigations by authorities. 

The Yusuf Ağa Sibyan Mektebi, an Ottoman-era elementary school, currently under the administration of the Independent Art Foundation, was concreted and painted with tile color on its external front.
