This was announced on Thursday by the chief state prosecutor in Karlsruhe.
"Arthur E. was arrested on Sunday in Munich after his return from the USA on the charge of participation in high treason," announced the Chief State Prosecutor's Office.

The head of Germany's secret service has called Russia's invasion of Ukraine a "declaration of war" on the entire Western democratic world.

Speaking at a public session of a parliamentary committee, Bruno Kahl, who heads the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), said that President Vladimir Putin's war was therefore not primarily over the territory of Ukraine.

As they stated, he "declared war" on Western democracies, BND director Bruno Kahl said in the Bundestag.
"The war that was launched on February 24 is a declaration of war on the entire democratic Western world, not only on Ukraine," said BND director Bruno Kahl before the parliamentary control committee in the Bundestag.

A German lawmaker has questioned the relationship between her country's spy agency and FETÖ, with the government admitting that contact with the members of the group behind the failed 2016 coup attempt in Turkey continues, Anadolu Agency reported on Jan. 29.

Germany's BND foreign intelligence agency spied on the Interpol international police agency for years and on the group's country liaison offices in dozens of countries such as Austria, Greece and the United States, a German magazine said.

No comment was immediately available from the BND, Interpol or Europol.

Turkish officials provided additional information about people they believe to have links to terrorist groups to a German delegation visiting Turkey, Interior Ministry sources said April 4. 

German lawmakers have voiced anger at claims that Turkey is spying on a fellow member of parliament.

The caucus leader of the Social Democratic Party, Thomas Oppermann, said it was "absolutely unacceptable" that lawmaker Michelle Müntefering "appeared on a list" that the Turkish National Intelligence Agency (MİT) handed to the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND). 

Turkey's National Intelligence Agency (MİT) has sent files regarding the followers of the U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen living in Germany to German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) after gathering information on them by spying, according to German media reports. 

Turkey has summoned the German Embassy's Chargé D'Affairs to its Foreign Ministry in reaction to the German Federal Intelligence Service's (BND) statements that they have not been convinced the Fethullahist movement was behind the July 2016 coup attempt. 

Turkish Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın has slammed the head of Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND) over his comments on the July 15, 2016 failed coup attempt, which is widely believed to have been masterminded by the movement of the U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen.
