FIFA World Cup

The invitation is a consolation of sorts for the reigning European champions missing the recent FIFA World Cup in China, at which they could have a chance to qualify for Tokyo as one of the top two European teams.

This honour went to Spain and France as the top two finishing European teams at the World Cup, while another six slots for the Olympics are also already occupied.

The Women's World Cup 2019 competition will be among 24 countries. They will have to play against each other over a four-week tournament in June and July. The competition kicked off on 7th of June 2019.

The sports ministers and representatives of the football federations of Bulgaria, Romania, Greece and Serbia held a working meeting in Thessaloniki, to which they signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the four governments.

The Government on Wednesday approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the submission of a joint candidacy of Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece for the organisation of the European and World Championships of 2028 and 2030 respectively, said the spokesperson for the Government, Nelu Barbu.
