Maria Bakalova Becomes Bulgaria’s First Golden Globe Nominee

Gades & Saura’s ‘Carmen’ | February 5-8

Hailed as one of the hottest flamenco shows in the world right now, "Carmen" by Antonio Gades and Carlos Saura is being brought to computer screens by the Christmas Theater on February 5-8. The flamenco version of the dramatic story is based on the world-famous late 19th century opera of the same title by George Bizet and on the original inspiration, the novella by Prosper Mérimée.

Online Sundance opens to virtual ovation for deaf drama

The Sundance Film Festival, forced online this year by the pandemic, quietly opened to a virtual "standing ovation" for deaf family drama "CODA" on Jan. 28.

Taking its title from an acronym for child of deaf adult, "CODA" follows high-school teen Ruby (Emilia Jones) as she juggles her musical ambitions with her family's dependence on her to communicate with the "hearing" world.
