Cash transactions of over 500 euros to carry hefty fines
Taxpayers, such as property buyers, who insist on breaking the law by conducting cash payments in excess of 500 euros each are facing fines, which can reach up to twice the value of the transaction, as the provisions of the new tax law have come into force.

Scholz: Tax on share dealing may be extended to other assets
The financial transaction tax on share dealing that 10 European countries hope to introduce from 2021 could be extended to cover trading in riskier assets, German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz said.

Joseph Stiglitz: Germany undermining Europe
Speaking to the French News Agency, Sunday, American Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz blasted Germany for undermining the European vision by showing a lack of solidarity towards Greece. “You cannot run a Eurozone without a basic modicum of solidarity”, said the Columbia University Professor. He continued by pointing out that asking even more from Greece is ‘unconscionable’.

BoG announcement: Only state transactions carried out
The Bank of Greece announced on Monday that it would only carry out transactions related to the Greek state, legal entities of public law and social security funds from Monday, June 29, until July 7. The announcement issued stated no other transactions would be carried out.
