Fire damages pedestrian walkway near Piraeus port

A fire erupted on the escalators of the pedestrian walkway located outside the terminal station of the ISAP electric railway and metro in Piraeus in the early hours of Wednesday.

As reported by state broadcaster ERT, firefighting teams promptly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire, with no injuries reported.

Fire engulfs workplace, adjacent buildings in Istanbul

Firefighting teams are struggling to battle a massive fire that erupted in a two-story commercial establishment and further spread to three adjacent buildings in Istanbul, the local media has reported.

The fire, which broke out on the roof of a sports facility in the Ataşehir district on Sept. 5 for reasons yet to be determined, rapidly escalated with the influence of strong winds.

Wildfire abates in Evros as satellite data exposes magnitude of disaster

The wildfire in Evros, in northeastern Greece, where firefighting efforts continue for the 17th consecutive day, is abating on Monday.

As reported by the public broadcaster ERT, there hasn't been an active front since late Sunday; nevertheless, over 93,000 hectares have been reduced to ashes.

Evros fire enters 15th day

For the 15th consecutive day, firefighters are continuing to battle the wildfires in the northeastern prefecture of Evros, with the focus of their efforts on the areas around the towns and villages of Soufli, Kornofolia, Dadia, Kotronia, Sidiro and Giannouli.

A forest fire in Greece is the largest recorded in the European Union, said a spokesman for the European Commission, quoted by "Guardian" and "AFP".

Eleven aircraft and a helicopter from the EU fleet have been sent to help fight the fire north of the city of Alexandroupolis along with 407 firefighters, Balazs Ujvari said on Tuesday.

Firefighters battle flare-ups in Evros, smaller fronts in Parnitha

Firefighters worked for yet another night to extinguish the flare-ups in Evros, near the Turkish border. According to the Fire Brigade, their efforts to extinguish the flames are primarily focused on the areas of Lefkimmi, Kotronia, and Tris Vryses, which are experiencing the highest number of flare-ups. Simultaneously, there are also reports of flare-ups in the Kassiteri region.

A third of Attica forests burned in last seven years

Twelve major fires have burned more than 60,000 hectares in seven years, claiming a third (33%) of Attica's forests, according to the updated analysis by the National Observatory of Athens' Meteo service of data provided by the EU's Copernicus Rapid Mapping Service and the European Forest Fire Observatory (EFFIS).
