Gun salute to be fired from Kalemegdan: Serbia celebrates Statehood Day

The Committee for Nurturing the Traditions of the Liberation Wars of Serbia of the Government of Serbia announced that today at 4 p.m., on the occasion of marking the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia, a gun salute will be fired from the Sava terrace of the Kalemegdan Fortress, in line with the order issued by the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces

Two centuries of Second Serbian Uprising

BELGRADE - Today marks two centuries of the Second Serbian Uprising, also known as the second Serbian revolution against the Ottoman Empire.

At a meeting of the national council in Takovo on April 23, 1815, Milos Obrenovic heralded the start of the uprising with his famous quote: "Here I am, and here you are at war against Turks."

Battle of Misar in First Serbian Uprising

BELGRADE - The Battle of Misar was one of the most important victories of the Serbian insurgents over Ottoman troops.

The battle - or its crucial part - took place on August 13, 1806 according to the Gregorian calendar.

In an attempt to crush an uprising led by Kardjordje Petrovic, the Ottoman Porte sent troops from Bosnia under the command of Suleiman Pasha Skopljak.
