Minister of Citizen Protection Notis Mitarakis has resigned for "personal reasons."

A government briefing confirmed that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had accepted his resignation.

The Ministry of Citizen Protection is responsible for the country's public security services, such as the police, fire service and General Secretariat for Civil Protection.

Nikos Androulakis has caused a stir by stating that PASOK will not agree to support a government headed by conservative incumbent Kyriakos Mitsotakis or leftist opposition chief Alexis Tsipras in the event of an inconclusive election.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will announce steps to revive the economy in a televised address on Wednesday. These steps will be mainly focused on tourism but will also concern other sectors affected by the coronavirus pandemic. 

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held an extraordinary meeting on Friday with Finance Minister Christos Staikouras and other ministry officials to discuss the impact of the coronavirus and its repercussions on the national economy and the country's households and enterprises.

Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis and French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire, signed a declaration of intent on the Greek-French economic partnership in Paris on Wednesday, aimed at boosting investments.

Following talks with European Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos on Monday, Prime Minister Kyriakos on Monday had another meeting with key cabinet officials whom he asked to focus on six key areas in curbing the impact of migration inflows.

Christos Staikouras, a former alternate economy minister under ND PM Antonis Samaras, will be Greece's new finance minister in the cabinet of incoming PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which was announced late this afternoon, less than 24 hours afte Mitsotakis' landslide victory, and veteran connservative MP Nilos Dendias will be Greece's new foreign minister.

The outcome of Sunday's triple elections is a "victory for Greece," former conservative prime minister Antonis Samaras said after official projections showed opposition New Democracy firmly in the lead in polls for European Parliament and regional and local government.
