Sand sharks that visit Boncuk Bay at the beginning of the summer every year, which was taken under protection only for them in the Aegean district of Marmaris, have flocked to the bay to breed, repeating a yearly routine.

Fishery production in Turkey posted a 33.1% increase last year on an annual basis, the country's statistical office said on June 5. 

The fishery production reached 836,524 tons in 2019, according to TÜİK figures.

Tons of dead fish have covered a part of the shores of Lake Varna, according to a video posted on the Internet. The video was shot today on the southern shore of Varna Lake near the village of Konstantinovo.

Whether the dead fish has anything to do with faecal contamination remains to be seen because of the broken pipeline.

A basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) weighing 330 kilos, was caught by trawlers off the northern port city of Kavala and transported to the central fish market, local reports said on Friday.

The basking shark, the second-largest living shark after the whale shark, was caught on Thursday.

Dead fish are seen on the bank of Lake Koroneia in northern Greece Thursday after high temperatures and drought conditions caused a severe drop in water levels.

Thousands of freshwater fish, mostly carp, have been found dead around Lake Koroneia, where the water level has fallen dramatically to just 60-80 cm.
