Finance offers scathing criticism of EU as system
Ljubljana – The newspaper Finance writes about the failure of the flood warning system in Germany in Wednesday’s commentary, suggesting it is indicative of how the hyper-regulated EU functions, where politicians prefer boasting about decarbonisation and digitalisation over taking concrete measures that work.

We are not going to face with the German scenario, but with another one
In Western Europe, about 200 people lost their lives, entire villages and even cities were flooded. The damage is huge, and the Germans are now threatened by toxic sludge. What worried us in Serbia was the large amount of precipitation that fell on our country, but also the Danube, which "collects" all that water from Europe.

Until this moment, an emergency situation has been declared only in Petrovac na Mlavi.
For now, we can say that we have done well, because the storm coming to us from Germany and that part of Europe, affected by the floods, has weakened quite a bit.
How could such a catastrophe happen to Germany - who failed?
The floods followed record amounts of rain that fell in parts of Western Europe.
Professor Hannah Cloke, a hydrologist who set up and now advises the European Flood Awareness System (an EU program designed to provide early warnings of dangerous floods) said alerts were sent to authorities in Europe over the weekend.
Europe reels from worst floods in years as death toll rises
Devastating floods have torn through entire villages and killed at least 128 people in Europe, most of them in western Germany where stunned emergency services were still combing the wreckage on July 16.
Unsuspecting residents were caught completely off guard by the torrent dubbed the "flood of death" by German newspaper Bild.

Severe flooding and landslides hit Sauerland area of German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
About 50 people are listed as missing.
A police spokesman in Koblenz confirmed that according to previous data, four people lost their lives under unidentified circumstances. Their bodies were found in different places.

Elsa is currently advancing along the east coast of the United States after it brought heavy rains and strong winds to Florida.
In a series of thunderstorms over the city and surrounding areas on Thursday afternoon, a large amount of rain fell that the drainage system could not manage, the National Meteorological Service (NWS) announced.
Works ongoing to prevent Acropolis flooding
In response to images of floods on the citadel of the Acropolis in central Athens from Thursday's torrential rain, the Culture Ministry said on Friday that "studies and works are ongoing in order to stop these phenomena [of flooding] on the Rock and the residential areas of Plaka."

Prosecutor orders probe into flooding disaster
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitstotakis speaks with locals on the island of Evia on Monday while surveying the damage caused by flash floods due to heavy rainfall on Sunday. A prosecutor on the island has ordered an investigation to determine whether any person or body can be held responsible for the deaths of eight people, including an infant, due to the floods.
