Winter is coming to Greece

A cold front will bring wintery weather across Greece this weekend, with rain, storms, a drop in temperatures, and snow at higher elevations. 

According to the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the southern winds, reaching up to force 8 in the northern Aegean, will bring wet conditions to the Dodecanese, Ionian, and mainland regions.

Electoral rolls cleanup begins

The Interior Ministry has started cleaning up electoral rolls, implementing a provision included in the law on postal voting, approved last January.

According to an official announcement, the aim is to remove deceased voters from the rolls, particularly those abroad whose deaths were never reported to the relevant Greek authorities.

Winter arrives up north

Freezing temperatures hit northern Greece Saturday morning, signaling winter's arrival. Areas including Drama, Florina, Kozani, Ptolemaida, and Lagadas in Thessaloniki recorded big drops. The lowest was -9 Celsius in Nevrokopi, Drama. In Ptolemaida, Nea Kafkaso in Florina, and Perithori in Nevrokopi, lows reached -6C, while other areas like Varyko, Grevena and Paranesti saw -5C.

Car Accident in Tsaritsani: Deputy Mayor of Florina Identified as Deceased Driver

The victim of the car crash in Tsaritdshani that took place on Saturday afternoon (21/9) was the deputy mayor of Florina Lazaros Antoniadis, local media report.

The accident occurred when the deputy mayor’s truck veered off course and burst into flames.
