Supermarkets see rise in turnover, drop in sales volume
Supermarket sales grew 9.1% in the first four months of 2023 but volumes fell by 3.5% in the same period, a report by NielsenIQ said on Tuesday.
The report said that foods/beverages (8.9%) and packaged foods (9.3%) led the sales growth in the January-April period.
Private label products win over more and more consumers
Consumers are increasingly turning to private-label products at supermarkets, as food inflation remains high.
According to data, sellers' own products have seen their market share grow by as much as 6.6 percentage points compared to last year.
Cypriots buy more food than needed
A recent report has found that Cypriots have a tendency to purchase more food than they actually need, leading to unnecessary waste and higher expenses. However, the report also noted that this behavior is slowly improving, as more people become aware of the issue and take steps to address it.

Only 12.7 pct of children consume meat every day: TÜİK
