Bulgaria: Consumers are Cutting Back on Food Purchases
With double-digit inflation in Bulgaria, household spending is expected to outpace income in the second quarter of the year. According to the data of the National Statistical Institute, in the period April - June, the total income of a household member is BGN 2,207, which is an increase of 16.5% compared to the same quarter of 2021.
Inflation: Energy, food and transport prices rally in July
Ιnflation remains alive despite its slight decline during the month of July. Although last month's general price index fell to 11.6% from 12.3% in June, nevertheless based on the data by group of goods and services it appears that consumers were burdened with unprecedented price increases.

Forecast: Basic Food Prices in Bulgaria will Rise by Another 7% by the End of the Year
Basic food is expected to rise by another 7% by the end of the year. This is predicted by the chairman of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets Vladimir Ivanov. However, despite the high prices of electricity and natural gas, there will be no sharp jump. The reasons are the competitive market and shrinking consumption.
Food prices increased in 2020
Ljubljana – Most basic food products became more expensive in 2020, the year marked by the Covid-19 epidemic, the Statistics Office said on Tuesday in light of the upcoming World Food Day on 16 October. They added that price rises were the most substantial in apples (+35.4%) and minced meat (+22.8%).
