During Pandemic Bulgarians Eat More Fruit and Less Bread and Sausages

During the pandemic caused by COVID-19, Bulgarians eat more fruits at the expense of bread, pasta, processed meat and sugar. This is according to the data from a survey on consumption of staple food products for the fourth quarter of 2020, provided by the National Statistical Institute, BGNES reported.

The İzmir University of Economics conducted a study to calculate the carbon footprint of food consumption in Turkey.

Fehmi Görkem Üçtuğ, the lead researcher, picked regular vegetarian and vegan menus consisting of the most preferred foods.

UN chief urges fast action to avoid 'global food emergency'

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for immediate action on June 9 to avoid a "global food emergency,'' saying more than 820 million people are hungry, some 144 million children under 5-years-old are stunted, and the COVID-19 pandemic is making things worse.

He said there is more than enough food to feed the world's 7.8 billion people but "our food systems are failing.''

Turkish city planning project to feed stray animals

Turkey's Konya Metropolitan Municipality is planning to launch a project to feed stray animals by collecting leftovers in the city and turning them into animal food using modern processing techniques.
Uğur Ibrahim Altay, the mayor of Konya, emphasized that they have carried out many pilot projects for stray animals.
Altay said the project will be an example to the world.
