The Turkish government has announced the winners of a centralized tender to supply food to the army after a series of serious food poisoning cases in barracks across the country.

An investigation has been launched into the food poisoning of students in the Kocaköy district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır. 

A total of 33 students were hospitalized over food poisoning on Sept. 26, prompting authorities to report the case. 

The number of detainees involved in a food poisoning case at a military barracks in the western province of Manisa has increased from 21 to 24, the local governor told private broadcaster CNN Türk on June 19.

An infection that led to 1,046(!) soldiers going to emergency service with complaints of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea on May 23 in the western province of Manisa resulted from being offered uncooked turkey meat, main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Manisa lawmaker Tur Yıldız Biçer said on May 28.

Some 200 people were poisoned on Oct. 23 by chicken kebab served at a wedding ceremony in the Dolaklı village of the eastern Turkish province of Ağrı's Doğubeyazıt district. 

A new study conducted by food testing company Clear Labs in US has discovered from a sample of 258 burgers, two cases of meat in vegetarian products, three burgers with rat DNA and one case of human DNA.

“The most likely cause is hair, skin, or fingernail that was accidentally mixed in during the manufacturing process,” the report mentioned referring to the human DNA.

CACAK -- Another person with salmonella poisoning is being treated at the hospital in Cacak, central Serbia, Director Dr. Radoslav Milosevic said on Wednesday.

As part of its global strategy to decrease the burden of foodborne diseases, WHO identified the need to communicate simple global health messages based on scientific evidence to train all types of food handlers, including consumers.

A group of 22 pupils from the northern Greek city of Florina were being treated for food poisoning in a hospital in Crete over the weekend.

The pupils, who were on a 5-day school trip, were returning to Iraklio after spending the day in the western part of the island on Sunday, when a number of them displayed symptoms of gastroenteritis.

A young girl suffering from food poisoning after consuming toxic mushrooms was reportedly in a stable condition on Friday.

The 2-year-old from Volos, central Greece, has been at the Ippocrateio Hospital of Thessaloniki since Tuesday.

She is the seventh person to be poisoned by wild mushrooms in the past few weeks.
