Turkey: Infection in military barracks caused by uncooked…turkey meat

An infection that led to 1,046(!) soldiers going to emergency service with complaints of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea on May 23 in the western province of Manisa resulted from being offered uncooked turkey meat, main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Manisa lawmaker Tur Yıldız Biçer said on May 28.

Traces of human and rat DNA found in burgers

A new study conducted by food testing company Clear Labs in US has discovered from a sample of 258 burgers, two cases of meat in vegetarian products, three burgers with rat DNA and one case of human DNA.

“The most likely cause is hair, skin, or fingernail that was accidentally mixed in during the manufacturing process,” the report mentioned referring to the human DNA.

Food poisoning hits Florina pupils on Crete trip

A group of 22 pupils from the northern Greek city of Florina were being treated for food poisoning in a hospital in Crete over the weekend.

The pupils, who were on a 5-day school trip, were returning to Iraklio after spending the day in the western part of the island on Sunday, when a number of them displayed symptoms of gastroenteritis.

Young girl out of danger after eating toxic mushrooms

A young girl suffering from food poisoning after consuming toxic mushrooms was reportedly in a stable condition on Friday.

The 2-year-old from Volos, central Greece, has been at the Ippocrateio Hospital of Thessaloniki since Tuesday.

She is the seventh person to be poisoned by wild mushrooms in the past few weeks.
