Foreign relations of Northern Cyprus

A joint declaration adopted at the end of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Southern European Union Member States (Med7) has "no value and merits" for Turkey, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on June 15. 

Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) signed two cooperation protocols on April 29 to meet the energy needs of the TRNC.

Turkey sent 40,000 more doses of a coronavirus vaccine early on April 20 to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). 

A Turkish Health Ministry plane carrying the vaccine doses landed at Ercan International Airport in Lefkoşa, where officials of the TRNC's Health Ministry received the shipment.

The Turkish Cypriot president on April 11 met with the U.N. special envoy on the Cyprus dispute ahead of a conference on the long-divided island later this month.

Ersin Tatar received Jane Holl Lute at the presidency.

Turkey wants a "Cyprus that stands on its own feet and creates jobs for its youth," the Turkish vice president said on April 1. 

Fuat Oktay, who is on a working visit to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), was welcomed by locals at the Ercan International Airport in Lefkoşa.

He met with the residents of Köprülü village.

Turkey on March 26 decried the appointment of a force commander to the U.N. Peacekeeping Force on Cyprus (UNFICYP).

Turkey's vice president on Feb. 10 underscored the need for a two-state solution for the long-divided island of Cyprus.

"We can talk and negotiate two separate states on the basis of two equal states and two equal societies on Cyprus," said Fuat Oktay, speaking to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) state broadcaster BRT.

Turkey on Jan. 30 voiced support for the stance taken by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) against the U.N.'s decision to extend the mandate of a peacekeeping mission on the island.

Ankara also called on the global body to stop relying on "a tested and exhausted process" that has failed to resolve the Cyprus dispute for "more than 50 years."

Talks over the divided island of Cyprus will be held in New York in the next two months with the participation of the United Nations, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday.

An official negotiation process on the Cyprus issue can only be started for a solution based on sovereign equality, the president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Jan. 13.
