Turkey sends 40,000 more vaccine doses to Turkish Cyprus

Turkey sent 40,000 more doses of a coronavirus vaccine early on April 20 to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). 

A Turkish Health Ministry plane carrying the vaccine doses landed at Ercan International Airport in Lefkoşa, where officials of the TRNC's Health Ministry received the shipment.

Turkey wants a "Cyprus that stands on its own feet and creates jobs for its youth," the Turkish vice president said on April 1. 

Fuat Oktay, who is on a working visit to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), was welcomed by locals at the Ercan International Airport in Lefkoşa.

He met with the residents of Köprülü village.

Turkish vice president stresses 2-state model for Cyprus

Turkey's vice president on Feb. 10 underscored the need for a two-state solution for the long-divided island of Cyprus.

"We can talk and negotiate two separate states on the basis of two equal states and two equal societies on Cyprus," said Fuat Oktay, speaking to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) state broadcaster BRT.

Turkey urges UN to shun 'tested, exhausted' Cyprus process

Turkey on Jan. 30 voiced support for the stance taken by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) against the U.N.'s decision to extend the mandate of a peacekeeping mission on the island.

Ankara also called on the global body to stop relying on "a tested and exhausted process" that has failed to resolve the Cyprus dispute for "more than 50 years."
