Ankara slams Greece for 'illegally arming' 16 islands in Aegean

Greece, arming 16 out of 23 islands with non-military status, in violation of agreements in the Aegean sea, should act in accordance with international law, Turkey's defense minister has said.

Speaking in his visit to Turkey's missile producer Roketsan on Jan. 23, Hulusi Akar said: "We expect Greece to act according to international law, agreements and good neighborly relations."

Some EU countries attempt to mediate in Cyprus, says Özersay

Turkish Cypriot Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay said on Jan. 21 that some EU countries are attempting to mediate in Cyprus over natural resources.

"Today, EU countries and prominent countries in the past six months are attempting to assume a mediating role between the sides over the natural resources," Özersay said, speaking at the assembly in Turkish Cyprus.

Ankara says E Med Gas Forum 'far from reality'

The Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, in which Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have been left out, is an unrealistic formation, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Jan. 16.

"If the purpose of this forum was really cooperation, of course, Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots would be invited to the forum as well," spokesman Hami Aksoy said in a statement.

Turkey’s water supply to TRNC suffers disruption

The fresh water supply from Turkey to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has suffered a disruption, Turkey's agriculture and forestry minister said on Jan. 11. 

Bekir Pakdemirli told reporters in Turkey's southern Mersin province that the Turkey-TRNC water pipeline didn't break and that the reason for the disruption has yet to be ascertained.
