In a move set to reverberate through global markets and geopolitical dynamics, the United States has announced the renewal of sanctions against Venezuela, citing unmet political commitments by President Nicolás Maduro. This decision comes amid escalating tensions between the two nations and holds significant implications for Venezuela, a key player in the international oil arena.

The United States on Monday began reimposing sanctions on Venezuela by restricting its mining sector after the South American nation's top court upheld the disqualification of an opposition presidential hopeful.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said in an interview that he is ready to work to normalize relations with the United States, despite ongoing sanctions crippling his country.

For three years, Juan Guaidó led the Venezuelan opposition's efforts to bring about new elections and remove socialist President Nicolás Maduro.

Iran and Venezuela signed a 20-year deal on cooperation between the two allies subject to U.S. sanctions during a visit on the weekend to the Islamic republic by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.    

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has met with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro who arrived in Turkey late on June 7 for an official visit.

The VTV state channel showed footage of Maduro arriving at the airport in Ankara, where he was received by senior officials of Turkey, an important ally of Venezuela.

Three Greece-based shipping firms said they have halted trade with Venezuela after the United States imposed sanctions on vessels under their management, as Washington ramps up commercial heat on Caracas.

President Nicolas Maduro on Feb. 17 said he is "not afraid of military combat," accusing his US counterpart Donald Trump of plotting to invade Venezuela with the support of regional allies.

The Trump administration on Nov. 5 issued licenses allowing some U.S. companies to pay taxes in Venezuela in spite of a broad U.S. sanctions regime, but also issued more sanctions on top officials in President Nicolas Maduro's government.

Venezuela's diplomats are reported to have 48 hours to leave the country.

Earlier, President Salvador Bukele said the US was "his country's number one ally."
