Plan unveiled for regeneration of burned forest areas in Mount Penteli

Authorities on Friday presented a plan for the restoration and recovery of forest areas on Mount Penteli that were devastated by a wildfire in July 2022. The plan was unveiled by Deputy Minister of Environment George Amyras and Mayor of Penteli Dimitra Kechagia at the local municipality.

National forest fund up by 0.2 pct in 2020, volume of harvested wood, up by 4 pct

The National Forest Fund registered an increase of approximately 0.2% in 2020, compared to the previous year, while the volume of harvested wood increased by 4%, according to data published on National Institute of Statistics (INS). As of December 31, 2020, the forest fund area was 6,604,206 hectares (+11,976 hectares as compared to 2019), of which the forest area totaled 6,449,417 hectares.

UN recognizes Turkey's success in forestation efforts

Turkey's success in increasing its forest assets was certified by the U.N., with the country ranking first in Europe and sixth worldwide for realizing afforestation work the most extensively, according to a recent report by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) covering the period between 2015-2020.
