Greece to pay 2.3 bln euros for 18 French Rafale fighter jets

Greece will pay a total of 2.3 billion euros ($2.8 billion) under a deal it is due to sign soon with France for the purchase of 18 Dassault-made Rafale fighter jets, its government spokesman said on Thursday.

Greece will buy six newly-built and 12 second-hand Rafale jets for 1.92 billion euros and pay another 400 million for their equipment, Stelios Petsas told a televised briefing.

G-7 finance ministers in the euro area will hold a conference call Wednesday to "coordinate their responses" to the impact of the coronavirus on the global economy, said French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire.

"We will have that meeting by phone—because you need to avoid travelling too much - for the G7 to coordinate its response," Le Maire told France 2 television.

Macron: France will not tolerate violations of Cyprus’ EEZ

France will not tolerate Turkish violations within Cyprus' exclusive economic zone (EEZ), President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday.

"We won't show any weakness," the French leader said.

Macron was speaking during a joint press briefing ahead of a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is on an official visit to France.
