19 Canceled Flights between Bulgaria and Germany due to the Strike at German airports

Due to the strikes at the German airports, 19 flights to and from the airports in Sofia and Varna have been canceled for today and in the early hours of tomorrow.

Regional airports’ record year

Greece's 14 largest regional airports, managed by Fraport Greece, reported a million more passengers last year than in 2019. In total, passenger traffic reached 31 million passengers, or 3.4% from the record year of 2019, sources have told Kathimerini, though uncertainty is clouding the new year.

Istanbul Airport busiest in Europe last year

Istanbul's mega airport was the busiest in Europe last year, according to the latest data from Eurocontrol.

It was again a very close race for the top spot, with İGA Istanbul narrowly finishing the year on top with 1,156 daily movements. Amsterdam Schiphol takes the second spot with 1,140 daily flights, down 18 percent from 2019, Eurocontrol said in a report.

Istanbul Airport busiest in Europe in third quarter

Istanbul was the busiest European airport and the only major European hub whose passenger volumes exceeded pre-pandemic levels in the third quarter of 2022, according to the Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe).

Its passenger traffic increased by 3 percent from the third quarter of 2019 and rose nearly 56.1 percent when compared to the third quarter of 2021.

Istanbul Airport ranked busiest in Europe

Istanbul Airport has been ranked as the busiest airport in Europe with 1,310 flights between Aug. 24 and 30, according to data from EUROCONTROL.

According to the weekly report, which also compares the flight performances before the pandemic, many airports in Europe lagged far behind 2019 figures, while Istanbul Airport increased its flights by 2 percent.

Domestic flight price cap increased

The Transport and Infrastructure Ministry has announced that it has decided to increase the price cap for domestic flights.

Accordingly, the maximum fare for domestic flights soared from a previous 990 Turkish Liras to 1,150 liras.

In July, more than 8 million passengers traveled on domestic routes.

German airports want longer-term employment for Turkish staff

German authorities have approved temporary employment of people from Türkiye to fill the staff shortage at the country's airports, but airport operators demand longer-term employment.

Under a temporary arrangement, Turkish employees will be able to work at German airports until Nov. 6.
