The airport that serves the northern port city of Thessaloniki is the main asset of Fraport Greece, which has invested in the operation and improvement of 14 regional airports across Greece, the consortium's chief commercial development officer Giorgos Vilos said at an event to celebrate the five-year anniversary of Ellinair.

Six new year-long lines will be opened from Varna Airport this summer. New direct flights begin in July and will be from and to Paris, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Copenhagen and Liverpool. This was announced today by the chief executive of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD Ulrich Heppe.

All five applicants were allowed to participate at the concession procedure for Sofia Airport, it became clear after the bids of the applicants were opened at the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport.

Bulgarian authorities said they had accepted the offers of all five international bidders for the concession for Sofia Airport, the Bulgarian transport authority confirmed on Thursday.

According to the company's website, the option is available for Air Serbia flights from Belgrade, Banjaluka, Podgorica, Sarajevo, Skopje, Tivat, Zagreb, Athens, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Tirana and Bucharest.

Tourist traffic data for 2019 is looking rather good, as Fraport Greece announced a first-quarter year-on-year rise of 8.2 percent at its regional airports, though this is attributed mainly to domestic rather than foreign travelers.

Italian company Leonardo SpA announced on Tuesday it had won two contracts in European airport logistics for a total of 100 million euros, concerning services for Athens and Geneva airports.
In Athens a new transfer baggage facility will be constructed and baggage infrastructure throughout the rest of the airport will be completely overhauled and extended by 2020.

The mega Istanbul Airport has served a total of 372,118 passengers as of March 18, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Cahit Turan has said.

German airport association ADV warned that the strike action would "paralyze" the German flight network on Tuesday, reported DW. 

Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport canceled 570 of 1,200 flights at Frankfurt ahead of Tuesday's warning strike organized by the DBB and Verdi trade unions, who began their walkout at 2 a.m. local time (0100 UTC).
