Law on state embezzlers to be abolished in penal code overhaul
Justice Minister Mihalis Kalogirou on Friday announced sweeping changes to the Greek penal and criminal procedure codes that will abolish a contentious law on state embezzlers, seek to reclaim damages from perpetrators, boost the role of prosecutors, introduce community service as a sentence and avoid needless trials.

Former KEELPNO executives charged with breach of faith, fraud
A corruption prosecutor on Tuesday brought charges of breach of faith and fraud against five former high-ranking employees of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) in connection with 74 illegal recruitments that are said to have resulted in losses to the state.
The charges relate to the period from 2010 to 2015 and concern a former head of KEELPNO, among others.
Thessaloniki fraudsters identified
Two Greek men, aged 40 and 70, and a 57-year-old Bulgarian woman, who currently are serving prison sentences, have been identified as the culprits behind three cases of fraud in which they conned senior citizens out of 36,000 euros in Thessaloniki last October.

Police in Thessaloniki said on Saturday that they have identified two suspected members of a fraud ring targeting elderly citizens as two Bulgarian nationals, aged 20 and 24.

Bank Employee from Northeastern Bulgaria Arrested for Embezzling over BGN 200,000
A 29-year-old bank employee in the town of Dulovo has been detained for embezzling large amounts of money, said the Silistra Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior.
Two suspects questioned over ATM fraud ring
Police in Thessaloniki said on Thursday that they traced two suspected members of a ring believed to have tampered with nine ATMs which allowed them to steal people's card details, clone their cards and make multiple withdrawals from their accounts over the past two years.
The suspects, aged 33 and 41, are both foreign nationals, police said, without revealing further details.
