ND protests prosecutor's appeal in favor of Koufodinas

The opposition New Democracy party has reacted strongly to the decision by the Supreme Court prosecutor to appeal a decision by a judicial council not to grant a fresh furlough to convicted November 17 hitman Dimitris Koufodinas.

"No serious democracy is blackmailed by terrorists or their admirers," New Democracy said in a statement.

Supreme Court prosecutor intervenes in Koufodinas case

As a Greek judicial council on Friday turned down an appeal for a fresh furlough by convicted November 17 hitman Dimitris Koufodinas, Supreme Court prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou said she would be reviewing the decision.

She also requested for Koufodinas' medical record and the report compiled by the social worker overseeing the jailed terrorist at the Volos prison in central Greece.

Application by convicted N17 hitman for seventh furlough rejected

A council of judges in Volos, central Greece, on Wednesday turned down a request by convicted November 17 hitman Dimitris Koufodinas for a seventh furlough in just over a year.
Koufodinas, who was handed 11 life sentences for his role in N17 in 2003, had applied for a four-day furlough starting on February 28, less than a month after enjoying a six-day leave.

N17 hitman granted leave for fourth time

Jailed November 17 hitman Dimitris Koufodinas, who received 11 life sentences and was sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment for his involvement in the terror group, has received a fourth 48-hour furlough.

Kathimerini understands that the prison disciplinary board approved his furlough application on Monday as it was deemed to meet the requirements of the law.
