Restoration planned for ancient Fyli fortress on Mount Parnitha

The Ministry of Culture is taking immediate measures to repair and support critical structural parts of the ancient Fyli Fortress on Mount Parnitha after the Central Archaeological Council (KAS) approved the architectural study for the restoration of the South Gate, the East Central Gate and two towers on either side.

Man allegedly douses woman in liquid, tries to set her on fire

Authorities say a man poured a flammable liquid on a woman and tried to set her on fire.

A statement from the police said the incident, said to be triggered by an altercation, occurred on Monday morning in the western Attica suburb of Zefyri.

A 51-year-old suspect, identified as Roma, has been apprehended by the police in connection with the attack.

Three arrested for attempted murder

Three people, aged 34, 36 and 41, were arrested on Tuesday in Zefyri, western Attica and charged with the attempted murder of a 19-year-old, robbery and violations of weapons legislation. 

According to the police, the three men stole the mobile phone of the 19-year-old in the Monastiraki area of central Athens using physical force. 

Hand grenades thrown at house in Ano Liosia, no injuries

Unknown assailants threw two hand grenades at a residence in Ano Liosia, northwest of Athens, in the early hours of Friday.

According to the police, at approximately 2.30 a.m., two individuals riding a motorcycle tossed hand grenades into the courtyard of a house occupied by Roma on Andrianoupoleos Street. Subsequently, they fled the scene.

Saving animals on Mount Parnitha

The sensation persisted from the moment we exited the Attiki Odos highway and entered Fyli.

Wildfire rages near Athens for second day, forcing more evacuations

Hundreds of firefighters struggled overnight to contain a wildfire on the outskirts of Athens, forcing more evacuations as authorities warned the risk of new blazes was high across the country on Wednesday.

Twenty people have been killed since fires erupted in northern Greece on Saturday and quickly spread, fanned by gale force winds in the second major outbreak of the summer.
