Romania Opposes Mandatory EU Refugee Quotas
Romanian Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea said on Monday that Bucharest will reject the European Commission's plan for national quotas for refugees.
"I have a clear mandate from the president and from the prime minister to politely refuse the EC request," Oprea said before leaving for Brussels, where EU interior ministers will hold a meeting on the refugee crisis.

Romania PM Temporarily Steps Aside Citing Health Reasons
Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta has announced he is vacating the office for some time for health reasons.
A government statement quoted by state-owned AGERPRES news agency reads that a leave of "up to 45 days" will be requested by President Klaus Iohannis in a letter.
Ponta will request that his deputy Gabriel Oprea be named as his replacement for this period.
