State corporations will cause big trouble for the next government
State corporations (DEKO) have been left in a sorry state following SYRIZA's four-year term in government and the next administration following the July 7 election will have to deal with explosive conditions, especially at Hellenic Post, the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization (OASTh), Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) and of course Public Power Corporation (PPC).
Members of meter-rigging gang arrested in Attica
Nine suspected members of a criminal gang believed to have tampered with electricity meters in several parts of Attica, swindling Greece's power distribution agency (DEDDIE) out of an estimated 1.45 million euros, faced an Athens prosecutor on Wednesday.

The whir of sewing machines sounds from street-level windows all over the downtown Athens districts of Patissia, Galatsi and Stathmos Larissis is a constant monotone. Every once in a while, a person emerges from these basement workshops for a cigarette break or to get something from a kiosk.

Making things difficult for ourselves
The situation at the new land registry offices in the inner Athens suburb of Galatsi in recent days is an absolute shame. It is a shambles and once again demonstrates that the Greek state has no respect whatsoever for its citizens and zero interest in dealing with their problems.

Greek land register crawling along
New land registry offices in the inner Athens suburb of Galatsi have boosted a slow-moving process to establish a Greek cadastre but still only a fraction of properties have been declared.
According to the latest official data, just 7 percent of all property rights have been declared so far - some 700,000 declarations - with 13 percent of all declarations submitted online.

Land register gets boost
People fill in documents to register their assets at the new land registry offices in the northern Athens suburb of Galatsi, Friday. Officials hope that the new center, originally built to host gymnastics events during the 2004 Olympics, will help speed up the process to compile a nationwide database by 2021. [Reuters]

The Nutcracker | Athens | To December 30
Tchaikovsky's Christmas classic, "The Nutcracker," has an obligatory place on the holiday program of the Christmas Theater initiative at the Olympic Hall in the Athens suburb of Galatsi, in a production by the St Petersburg Ballet Theater. Shows take place through December 30, starting at 8 p.m. on weekdays, at 4 and 8 p.m. on Saturdays and December 26, and at 12.30 and 5.30 p.m. on Sundays.
