Dangerous weather warning sent to residents of Achaia via 112 phone line

A warning that dangerous weather phenomena are on the way was sent to mobile phones in the Achaia area on Wednesday from the 112 emergency number.

The message urged them to minimize travel and take protective measures due to strong rain and gale-force winds that are expected in the area from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday night. [AMNA]

Gales disrupt services, keep emergency crews busy

Salvage crews were waiting for the rough weather to abate before retrieving a speed boat that partially sank in the port of Nafplio, southern Greece, on Saturday due to powerful winds that swept across the southwestern Aegean and the Saronic Gulf.
According to Nafplio port authorities, the area was battered by winds of 9 to 10 on the Beaufort scale.

Passenger ferry breaks away from moorings in Piraeus

An operation was under way on Thursday morning to tow the Panagia Agiasou passenger ferry back to safety after it broke away from its moorings at Piraeus Port in gale-force winds overnight.

Winds were still strong in the areas, hampering the operation, though meteorologists have said that conditions will ease later in the day.

Mars’ beautiful “blue sunset”

Curiosity Mars rover is currently exploring Gale crater on Mars, since 2012. The NASA space vehicle recently sent over some amazingly beautiful pictures of a “blue sunset” from the planet.

 

The photos were received on the 15th of April and depict the sun being lost over the horizon of the red planet.
