Istanbul exhibition to commemorate Çanakkale victory

The Presidential Communications Directorate is hosting an exhibition to commemorate the March 18 Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs' Memorial Day on Monday.

Communications Director Fahrettin Altun will launch the "Goodbye Exhibition" ('Allahaısmarladık Sergisi' in Turkish) at 9:30 a.m. (0630GMT) at Istanbul's historic Sirkeci Train Station.

Access to Imbros and Tenedos impeded

Direct access to the islands of Imbros (or Gokceada in Turkish) and Tenedos (or Bozcaada) has been a perennial request of the natives of the two islands. Particularly on Imbros, the largest of the two, where, under the Lausanne Treaty, Ankara had a contractual obligation to safeguard rights and property (and certainly did so only piecemeal), there is a problem of access from Greece.

Türkiye has marked the anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory and commemorated the soldiers who lost their lives during the battles in Gallipoli Campaign World War I.

Memorial ceremonies, which were attended by senior officials, local authorities, politicians, veterans, non-governmental organizations and citizens, were held in various provinces of the country to mark the occasion.
